Five snowmobilers are safe after going missing overnight in Routt County. The Steamboat Pilot says just as three search and rescue teams prepared to set out after them Monday morning, the men returned safely to a parking lot. Apparently the men got stuck in nearly 30 inches of fresh snow that had accumulated during the weekend.

Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey will announce his bid for re-election today. KJCT says the official announcement will be made at the Mesa County Young Republican lunch meeting. Voters passed a ballot initiative last November giving the two-term Sheriff the go ahead to run for a third term.

It appears the US Forest Service supports a bill by Representative John Salazar that would protect nine parcels of land in San Miguel, Ouray, and San Juan counties. The Daily Press prints that Salazar told the House Subcommittee on National Parks that his bill would add just under 25,000 acres of wilderness. All affected area county commissioners support the bill.
