A six vehicle traffic accident on Hwy 145 closed off the highway for several hours late yesterday morning. The accident occurred on a blind curve commonly known as “Watertank Curve.”  Emergency crews and police officers from Telluride Mountain Village along with the Colorado State Patrol were at the scene.  Several people suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene or transported to the Telluride Medical Center.  One individual, Lindsey Walker Silverman was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction. The accident is under investigation.

A 65-year-old Longmont man charged in the 1975 stabbing deaths of a Grand Junction mother and child is now scheduled for trial in October. The Daily Sentinel has learned that Jerry Nemnich, who pleaded not guilty in the murders of Linda Benson and her daughter, will be tried over a two week period beginning October 12th.  The trial was moved from September.

The horse races are coming to Montrose County in June and the Black Canyon Race Association invites anyone that is interested in participating in the race to attend a meeting tomorrow.  The meeting is at 10:00am at the north end of the Montrose County Fairgrounds racetrack. The horse races are planned for June 19th and 20th.

Meteorologists say at least two tornadoes touched down in rural areas south and east of Denver as thunderstorm swept through the region. 9News in Denver says hail pelted parts of the city and blanketed the ground and roads east of Denver. Streets flooded and power was temporarily knocked out to some.
