The Montrose Regional Airport is taking bids until June 11, 2010, 1:00pm, for improvements to the airport. The work involved will include the following: the Montrose Regional Airport is undertaking a program to expand and renovate the terminal facilities due to regional growth and increased air traffic. Based upon growth, a program has been developed for the current and future needs at the airport. The project will expand the existing Terminal building to the south adding approximately 11,000 SF of needed new space and renovating almost 9,000 SF.
The expansion will provide new ticketing lobby, airline operational spaces, airline ticket offices, outbound baggage facilities and spaces for TSA baggage screening. The renovated spaces will add new secure restrooms, expand the TSA checkpoint and double the size of the existing departure lounges. The exterior and interior materials and colors will match the existing terminal to tie the two projects together in a natural manner.
Construction for this project is expected to start in June/July 2010. The new addition to the terminal building shall be completed by November 19, 2010. A Montrose man is behind bars, suspected of sexually assaulting a child. Gerardo Paredes-Carranza was arrested Monday morning. The 22-year-old started allegedly started sexually assaulting a child in December of last year and continued until this month. Because the investigation is ongoing, no other information is being released. He is being held on $60,000 bond.

Norwood has a busy month coming up and recently got some big news. They found out last week that San Miguel Power and SunEdison are to construct a 40-acre solar farm in the area, the exact location has yet to be determined. A work session with SMPA and representatives from SunEdison will be held May 13, at 7:00pm at the Norwood Community Center. According to the Norwood Post, Norwood Water Commission is looking to fill a vacancy on their board, the Land Use Code is being looked at this month (May 17th, 7:00pm), and a change in seats on the Norwood Sanitation Board will take place this month. John Fahnestock, who was appointed to a vacant seat on the Norwood Sanitation Board in January 2005, and ran uncontested for the seat in 2006, finishes his service this month. Glen Colson will take his place and be sworn in at the May 13 regular meeting. The next Norwood Board of Trustees meeting is May 12th. The Water Commission meets May 11th.

The Colorado Senate has given initial approval to legislation that would ban leg shackles and waist restraints on female inmates during childbirth and limit the use of other restraints during delivery. KJCT says that at least six states largely ban the use of shackles on women during childbirth, which has been condemned by medical experts for unnecessarily risking women’s health.
