There’s a large fire reported in Beaver Canyon just east of Norwood. The fire has jumped Highway 145 and as a result the highway has been shut down.
Firefighters with Montrose Interagency Fire Management Unit (MIFMU) are fighting a 200-acre fire near Norwood this evening. The Beaver Fire started in San Miguel Canyon near Goodenough Road. Highway 145 is currently closed, and fire officials are urging residents in the area to be aware of the fire.
No homes have been evacuated, and no structures are in the immediate fire area.
Resources fighting the fire from the ground include five MIFMU engines from Norwood and Montrose, as well as local volunteer fire departments. Ground crews have also been ordered to the fire.
The fire is burning on private and Bureau of Land Management land near the San Miguel/Montrose county border, in oak brush and pine trees.
No cause for the fire has yet been determined.
