Delta Air Lines will expand its winter Atlanta non-stop service to Montrose from Saturday only to Daily service beginning December 18, 2010. The Atlanta to Montrose daily non-stop service will run until April 3, 2011. Service will be provided on a CRJ900 76 seat regional jet (64 Coach and 12 First Class Seats) and on a 142 seat MD90 aircraft.

“We’re pleased that Delta will be serving the Telluride/Montrose area on a daily basis this coming winter, said Larry Mallard President of the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization. Atlanta is the busiest airport in the world and with Delta being the dominant hub carrier at that airport, effective service from Atlanta can greatly help us in increasing skier visitation to the Telluride/Montrose Region.”

“Delta continues to grow our hub in Atlanta with the Daily seasonal to Montrose/Telluride,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s managing director – Schedule Planning.  “Our Montrose/Telluride customers have one-stop access from our eastern hub to 227 destinations across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.”

Delta’s new daily nonstop service between Montrose, Colorado and Atlanta, Georgia is effective December 18, 2010

The expansion of the Delta Atlanta Flight to Daily will more than offset the reduction of winter airline seats to Montrose/Telluride due to the loss of Salt Lake City service on Delta during the winter 20102011 season.  The region is also fortunate that United has opted to serve Montrose with upsized non-guaranteed jet service from Denver which also helps replace the Salt Lake City seats and keeps a high level of seats available to the Northwest.

“Even though the Delta Salt Lake City service has been under an airline guarantee since its inception in the 20062007 winter season, due to a reduction in 50 seat regional jet aircraft at Delta, this service is being cut for winter 20102011, said Scott Stewart Executive Director of the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization. Airline Guarantees while helpful and often essential for small communities in their air service development efforts, do not always insure you will be able to get and/or sustain air service. The airlines are always considering what markets will provide the greatest profit with the aircraft they have available to operate.
