Baby Rocha Update::Daniel Ryan appeared in court today for an arraignment. The uncle of 14-month-old Hailey Rocha approached the bench and asked, in between sobs, that Ryan’s bail be raised to $500,000 for the safety of his sister and the rest of the family. The judge agreed and upped the bail. Ryan will be assigned a public defender and is expected back in court at 9:00am Wednesday September 22, 2010. He could face from 16-48 years in prison and up to $1 million dollar fine for each count. Ryan faces charges of Child Abuse Resulting in Death and 2nd Degree Murder in Rocha’s death on Saturday. Friends and family were there in support of Pamela Barnes, mother of Rocha.

Montrose Police have arrested 23-year-old Daniel Ryan in the death of a 1-year-old girl over the weekend. The Montrose County Coroner says that Hailey Rocha died of blunt force trauma and the manner of death is homicide. Rocha died over the weekend apparntly under the care of Ryan. He faces charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Child Abuse. He’s being held on a $150,000 bond.

Official Police Press Release:
On September 11, 2010, the Montrose Police Department was dispatched to a business in the 2000 block of South Townsend Avenue on an infant that was not breathing. When Officers arrived CPR was in progress on the infant by an EMT that was at the scene. The victim, Hailey Rocha, age 14 months was transported to Montrose Memorial Hospital by Montrose Fire and EMS and was later pronounced dead at the Montrose Memorial Hospital. The investigation revealed that the victim received injuries that resulted in her death. The investigation also determined that a homicide had occurred, In the evening hours on 9-13-2010, Daniel Lee Ryan, age 23 from Montrose was arrested for the death of the victim Hailey Rocha. Daniel Lee Ryan was incarcerated at the Montrose County Criminal Justice Center where he was booked on Second Degree Homicide (F-2) and Child Abuse Resulting in Death (F- 2). Bail was set at $150,000.
