Gov. Bill Ritter has asked the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide emergency low-cost loans for businesses, homeowners and renters who were impacted by this month’s Fourmile Canyon Fire in Boulder County. The blaze started on Labor Day, charring more than 6,000 acres and destroying about 160 homes and businesses – the most structures ever burned in a Colorado wildfire. Preliminary damage assessments indicate that low-interest SBA loans, combined with private insurance coverage and state and local assistance already being offered, will help meet the longer-term recovery needs of those who live and work in the area.
