The search for a Chicago hiker missing in the western Colorado mountains is being suspended. Five search and rescue teams have been looking for 31-year-old James Nelson in the Holy Cross Wilderness near Vail since his finance reported him missing Friday. The Eagle County sheriff’s office says he was last seen October 3rd by two hikers. Sheriff Joe Hoy tells Vail Daily that the search would be halted at midnight Tuesday. He says searchers have covered all the areas that can be safely reached on foot and aerial searches have been conducted, but nothing has turned up. Hoy says teams will continue to look for clues to Nelson’s whereabouts when in the area. The remote area ranges from 9,000 feet to 14,000 feet in altitude.
