Two Colorado State Troopers indicted by a Grand Jury in the death of Jason Kemp made their first court appearances earlier this morning. NBC 11 News reports that Trooper Ivan Lawyer was indicted on six counts, including criminally negligent homicide and Corporal Kirk Firko was indicted on five counts including 1st degree criminal trespassing.  According to the indictment Kemp was shot by Lawyer on July 20th.  CSP had been called out to a hit-and-run accident in the Redlands and went to Kemp’s home to investigate.  The indictment says Kemp refused to answer his door so Lawyer eventually kicked it in and when  he saw Kemp standing in the dark with his arm raised like he was holding a gun, Lawyer shot him. Both officers are on unpaid administrative leave.
