Babysitter faces murder charges. The babysitter accused of killing 4-month-old Angel Nieto was formally charged today with murder. The Daily Press reports that Maria Espinosa-Zavala was arrested last week and now faces first-degree murder and child abuse charges. Angel died October 9th.

Trailer fire in GJ. Grand Junction firefighters responded early this morning to a trailer fire at the KOA campground. Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly and limit exposure to nearby trailers and structures. The cause of the fire is likely a space heater that was purchased yesterday. There was one person in the home at the time of the fire, but he was able to escape on his own and was not injured. Damage is estimated over $20,000.
Golf course needs help. Recently the Devil’s Thumb Golf Course presented their financials to the City of Delta…and it wasn’t good news. The Delta County Independent says that while the recession is affecting golf courses statewide; Devil’s Thumb is reporting revenue losses at 27 percent for 2010. It’s possible a golf course committee will be formed to increase public involvement.

No to Two Rivers. In a unanimous decision yesterday, Grand Junction City Council voted against awarding Two Rivers Convention Center the food contract for two of the city’s golf courses. The city felt the city-owned convention center was a conflict of interest and says the bidding process needs to be re-done. Steve Hoefer, who currently runs the Pinon Grill, has had the food contract for the past 14 years; however their contract is set to expire next month.
