A 2-year-old boy is dead after being found in the icy Arkansas River in southern Colorado. The family of Sean Marques says he wandered off from his home in Canon City on Thursday afternoon. KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs reports searchers found him partially submerged in ice about two hours later. He was about an eighth of a mile from home. The toddler died at a hospital later that evening. About 100 people turned out to help search for Sean.

Lions, tigers, & bears, OH MY! Grand Junction is working with the Grand Valley Zoological Quest in hopes of opening a zoo in the area. NBC 11 News reports that Grand Valley Zoological Quest asked for 50 acres of land north of I-70 near 29 Road, but the city said they’d look into maybe leasing them land near the Botanical Gardens and outdoor amphitheater. The next step is for Grand Valley Zoological Quest to present it’s proposal to Grand Junction City Council.

NO burn. There is a RED air quality advisory in effect until Monday for the western Colorado valleys including the communities of Grand Junction, Delta, and Montrose. This means there is a restriction on wood burning in fireplaces and non-EPA approved woodstoves. EXTRA moves one step closer to Montrose. There are a few more hurdles EXTRA Aircraft needs to clear before moving into Montrose; the city chosen to be it’s U.S. Headquarters. Region 10 recently approved the $1 million dollar Community Development Block Grant EXTRA is seeking, which is conditional based on a dollar-for-dollar match. Montrose County tells the Daily Press that as far as their concerned, everything is on hold for the time being. The county approved construction an on-airport facility for EXTRA, a German airplane manufacturing company, and leasing it to the company. The county and EXTRA are still discussing facility design and lease payments.
