DELTA – Last Tuesday, Delta Police Chief Robert Thomas, along with Commander Jesse Cox, Patrol Sergeant Jesse Stanford, and Detective Sergeant Brad Lamb approached city council nearly pleading for two more officers to be added to their department.
According to Mountain Valley News, Thomas said there are dozens of cases from the 1960’s through the 90’s that were never even investigated, because the Delta Police Department has been so short staffed. He believes that the victims were shortchanged in those cases, and while they can’t move back, they can move forward, to help those in need today.
Thomas said it would cost roughly $80,000 to hire two officers. Cox, Stanford, and Lamb said their officers currently work 10-12 hour shifts with barely any backup and at times there are only two officers working the entire night shift. City Manager Joe Kerby said he would look into how the city can fund two more officers.
