School District 51 Eliminates 42 Teachers and Staff

GRAND JUNCTION  -  The first round of school budget cuts has hit and School District 51 in Grand Junction will have to eliminate 42 teachers and certified staff members.  Superintendent Steve Schultz told The Daily Sentinel that the district will also have to eliminate or reduce funding for several programs.  A couple of other items as a result of the budget cuts include Restructure School to Career program and increase  high school and middle school athletic fees.  After all is said and done these first round of cuts are expected to save the district nearly $5 million.  Schultz said that the district may have find another savings of $5 million depending on the state’s final budget.
