MONTROSE – The Center for Mental Health in Western Colorado has said that the suicide rates in the six county area have jumped dramatically. The highest number of suicides came from Montrose and Delta counties for the first quarter of 2011. So far this year the Center for Mental Health has received fourteen reports of suicides from their jurisdiction which is already near the fifteen suicides that the area saw in 2010. According to the center suicide takes more lives in Colorado than motor vehicle accidents and homicides combined and suicide prevention must be a priority.
