At his trial State Trooper Ivan Lawyer testified that he received very little training on the 4th amendment law and general issues concerning search and seizure. The person they were trying to contact was Jason Kemp who was gunned down in the doorway of his home on July 20th, 2010. Defense attorney had pictured Lawyer as a mild-mannered Christian and a trooper who does not use swear words. On the day of the shooting, Lawyer had just completed his 3 month probationary period after being hired back from a 3 year hiatus. He had left the State Patrol for a short time while he tried out a private business opportunity. The prosecution is arguing that the 4th Amendment right to the constitution is the central issue in this trial.
