Back To School Tax Break Fails in State Legislature

A proposed tax break on back to school shopping on clothes and supplies has been defeated during the final days of the state’s legislature.  The tax break would have waived state sales tax on low-cost clothing, computers, and school supplies during a 3 day “Sales Tax Holiday” slated for August.  Opponents argued that such a tax break would not really help the economy and has marginal benefits for shoppers.  The Senate committee had rejected the proposal even though it cleared the House and had bipartisan support.
