U.S. Secretary Ken Salazar has announce the approval of a major natural gas drilling project in Eastern Utah.  This plan will allow Anadarko Petroleum to develop more than 3600 gas wells, however, the plan will not have direct benefits to service companies on the western slope.  One of the reasons Anadarko Petroleum was given permission to add gas wells in eastern Utah was because of oil regulations implemented in late 2008.  The Obama Administration says that the approval of wells in Eastern Utah will support more than 4,000 jobs which has some officials wanting a move that would bring more benefits directly to the Western Slope.
