This spring, Family Health West Hospital donated two Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to the Sheriff’s Office. In addition, the Mesa County EMS Council and the Sheriff’s Office each purchased two AEDs, for a total of six. This equipment is being placed in the vehicles of five of our agency’s Rural Area Deputies (RAD) and one AED at our Alternative Sentencing Unit.
The RAD unit is assigned to patrol the far reaching, rural areas of the County. Being armed with the AED gives them another life saving tool when they respond to emergencies in remote places. The Alternative Sentencing Unit houses convicted inmates sentenced to work release and inmates participating in the workender program. The AED gives automated instruction on treating victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
