Today House bill 1331 was signed into law by Gov. Hickenlooper. This law changes the name of Western State College to Western State Colorado University. Western State was founded in 1901 to prepare students for a career in teaching. By 1923 it expanded its academic program and today is anticipating more programs in the future. Rep. J. Paul Brown, the sponsor of this bill, this name change honors the hard work of its students and teachers and gives the university its well deserved prestige.
