The construction of the new and improved powerline that runs from Nucla’s substation to the Sunshine Substation near Telluride should be completed in the fall. This new line will drastically increase the voltage capacity to better serve growing communities in the area. According to The Daily Planet, the idea for putting this new line has been considered for some time but Tri-State first needed permission from several gov’t agencies, as well as BLM, U.S. Forest Service and a number of private landowners. In addition to this new power line Tri-State is also upgrade its substations to cope with the new line.
