City Council Approves Fireworks, Liquor License

The Montrose City Council met last night and one of the first things they brought up was the municipal fireworks display. Since there is a state wide open burning ban, which includes a ban on the private use of fireworks, residents were curious if there will be a fireworks show for the Fourth of July. The Council approved a display permit for the Montrose Rotary Club, but the permit still needs a signature from the Montrose County Sheriff. Also at last night’s meeting City Attorney Russ Duree announced that Sam’s Tavern had fulfilled all the requirements set during their probationary period. The Tavern had been put on probation after Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn recommended the Council not renew their liquor license due to numerous calls to the police department about the tavern. The City Attorney told the council that the requirements had been met and the city renewed the liquor license for Sam’s Tavern.
