Although the city of Montrose’s fireworks show is still a go for now, the city of Fruita has cancelled its fireworks display.  Instead the city will hold a free concert for its residents at the Civic Center starting at 7:30pm next Tue. Eve.  In a public statement released by the Fruita mayor public safety is the top priority and the high risk of a potential wildland fire make having a fireworks show an improbability.  Before making their decision, city officials did confer with the BLM and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Dept as well as the Lower Valley Fire Protection District.
