A public meeting was held last night in Palisade by GBT Realty Corp, the parent company of Dollar General explaining why they’re seeking a permit to develop their store in Palisade. Bob Gage, the vice president of the lease development for GBT was met with extreme hostility. Gage tried to explained to the audience that the design of this store would not be like that of other Dollar General outlets and would have a brick façade. The store is also expected to employ anywhere from 12 to 15 people. Despite the construction plans Gage mapped out those in attendance felt it still wouldn’t fit in with many of the Victorian style buildings already standing. Plus many are concerned it would force other small companies out of business. More public meetings are expected and should the building permit be issued, construction of a Dollar General building could begin as early as a week after the permit is approved.
