As part of budget cuts this year, Grand Junction School District 51 students who used to ride the bus, may now be walking. In this year’s trimmed down budget, the School Board expanded the acceptable walking distance to schools to reduce bussing costs. Elementary school students within two miles of their school, and middle and high school students within three miles of their school will no longer be bussed. The district is saving more than half a million dollars this year because of the new rules, and are currently working on the new bus routes.
Parents can use this form to send concerns to the school district.
