Former GJ Police Officer Has Preliminary Hearing

Yesterday a preliminary hearing was held for former Grand Junction police officer Eric Janusz who is charged with four counts of sexual assault on a child by a person of trust and one count of a pattern of abuse. During that hearing a woman came forward to testify and claimed she was only 16 when she met Janusz back in July 2000. She was initially trying to find her brother when he first approached her and forced himself on her. The defense had pointed out that the two had a relationship for a couple of months. The defense had also argued since the two met he should not be considered a person of trust, but the judge ruled that the charges will stay and determined there was enough probable cause to let the case go to trial. Janusz is expected back in court on Aug. 27th for arraignment.
