The State Patrol is investigating an accident on Hwy 50  west of Gunnison and trying to determine if alcohol was a related factor.  The accident force the police to close that portion of Hwy 50 just 4 miles west of Gunnison by milemarker 153 for several hours.  The driver of the 2008 Dodge van was pronounced dead at the scene and another woman was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.  Her condition is unknown at this time as is the identity of both women pending notification of kin.  Investigators are still determining what direction the van was traveling in and looking for what else might have caused the crash.
