It’s a hazy shade of summer here in Montrose.  Late many have noticed that the San Juans are difficult to see and some have smelled smoke.  Its not from any fires in Colorado but there are numerous wildfires in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Idaho.  The Montrose Interagency Fire Management Unit said there are some smaller fires in the state but none that are affecting visibility over a widespread area.    Two fires that firefighters are working on in our area are the East Coal Fire 17 miles west of Gunnison and the Gravel Pit Fire 7 miles northwest of Norwood.  Neither is a threat to any structures or people.
