Delta Goes With Another Contractor For Truck By Pass Project

It appears the truck by pass in Delta will be built by another company.  Last week the city decided to go with Hamon Contractors instead of SEMA Construction after they received an unsolicited bid from Hamon.  Initially Delta gave the bid to SEMA who was the lowest qualified bidder.  After SEMA figured in some additional fees and costs the total exceeded city’s funds for the project.  Public Works director Jim Hatheway also came up with some additional cost-saving items that could reduce the cost even further.  Ultimately between Hamon’s figures and that additional cost-saving idea the total project could come to one million less than what SEMA had project and could be within reach for the city’s budget.
