Abortion Initiative Fails to Gather Enough Signatures

The Colorado Secretary of the State’s office announced that a petition for a personhood amendment to the Colorado Constitution failed to reach the required signatures to be placed on the ballot. Initiative 46 would have banned all abortion in all cases within the state. Similar measures in previous years have failed in the general elections by wide margins. The petition was nearly 4,000 signatures short of the required 86,000 signatures. The Colorado Personhood Coalition, the group behind the petition, say they turned in more than 100,000 signatures. The Secretary of the State’s office did an analysis of the petition and determined that they fell short of the required amount of signatures. The Coalition has thirty days to challenge that analysis.
