Although it takes no time at all for wildfires to decimate the land BLM explains that the one that hit Little Book Cliffs earlier this summer may take some months to rejuvenate. The agency is planning on spending $850 thousand for the Pine Ridge Rehabilitation Project that will eventually restore the land the way it was. However, on the downside for hunters and sportsmen alike the land will be closed off during the rehab project until July 2013. Officials say this will be no easy project but must be done to avoid greater downstream. One of the officials explains the urgency of rehabilitating this land because unstable soil could contaminate the Colorado River which supplies water to much of the southwestern part of the country.
