Montrose and Olathe were once again named as the top community for young people in the country. The award came with a twenty five hundred dollar grant as well. To win the award for the second year, community leaders in Montrose and Olathe had to prove that last year’s grant was put to good use. The grant funded a pilot program at Olathe Middle School called Club 6S. The program encourages kids to become community leaders and it teaches critical thinking skills. With this year’s grant, the program can continue for another year and it could spread to other sixth graders in the Montrose and Olathe School District.
