Earlier today at the Board of Montrose County Commissioners meeting the hot topic of the day was not even on the agenda. It was, instead, a response to Sunday’s Letter to the Editor in the newspaper questioning the procedure used in hiring Dave Laursen as the County’s Fleet Manager. There was speculation that the hiring was politically motivated and whether or not the county in fact hired the best and most qualified person available. Discussions were pretty lively on both sides. Brian Wilson, director of Public Works, who was ultimately responsible for hiring Dave Laursen explains the procedure used in hiring someone for the county. (audio :24sec)
Wilson also says there is a general consensus even after he chooses a candidate with the County Manager Jesse Smith and Stephanie Barnett, Director of Internal Services. The County Fleet Manager’s position became vacated when Marvin Keibil turned in his resignation.
