A man who took a shot at a Rifle cop in the Oct 22nd 2010 shooting in a domestic violence incident was sentenced today in Glenwood Springs.  Phil Amonette was found guilty of first degree assault against a police officer who was not hurt because he was saved by his bullet proof vest and a cell phone.  Amonette’s attorneys had contended that the shooting was accidental.  In july a jury acquitted him of first degree attempted murder.  The attempted murder charge would have given Amonette up to 48 years in prison but since he was found guilty only on the assault charge he faces a sentence of 10 to 32 years.
