U.S. Forest Service Closes Off Middle Elk Area To The Public

In a news release put out by the U.S. Forest Service a decision was made to close the area around the Middle Elk Fire north of New Castle until further notice primarily for safety reasons.  District Rangers say the fire has been slowed down by the recent weather but there’s still a risk of falling trees and snags that have been weakened by the fire.  The U.S. Forest Service is working with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife to make sure all this information reaches the public before they arrive in the area and can make alternate plans.  Western Colorado’s first big-game rifle season begins Oct. 13.
