The Highway 13 fire burning north of Rifle is nearing a thousand acres. That sounds like a big increase from Yesterday, where it was reportedly at five hundred acres. Firefighters say while the acreage appeared to double, it was due to better mapping of the fire and not growth. In reality, the fire only grew a few acres yesterday while four helicopters and three air tankers attacked. More than one hundred fifty firefighters are working to contain the fire, which is already five percent contained. No structures are threatened and no evacuations have been ordered.
