An update on the two fires in the western part of the state. Hotshot crews continue to monitor and conduct mop-up operations on the Vallecito Fire. 25% of the fire has been contained and firefighters remain on site to monitor the fire’s behavior and call on aircraft if needed. As for the Goblin Fire on the upper slopes of the Weminuche Wilderness, fire has consumed 700 acres and is still difficult to get under control because of the steep terrain and unsafe conditions. Firefighters are trying to confine the fire within certain parameters and will remain on scene for the next several days to keep an eye on its growth and behavior.
