Yager Murder Trial Opens With Bombshell Defense

Opening arguments were made yesterday in the Nathan Yager murder trial.  Yager’s defense attorney dropped a bombshell suggesting Melinda Tackett Yager pushed the buttons of a man with tenuous mental stability, going so far as to plan a situation in which she would be attacked, so that she could get everything she wanted from their acrimonious divorce.  Yager’s defense is claiming he was legally insane when Tackett Yager was slashed to death on Jan. 7, 2011, in Paonia.  The asssistant district attorney says the vicious killing was the act of an angry man who knew what he was doing when he bashed his estranged wife in the side of her head and viciously cut her throat.  Yager has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to second-degree murder. His trial got under way much earlier than had been anticipated, after the court was able to seat a jury late on Tuesday
