The murder trial of Nathan Yager continued yesterday. Vicki Martinez testified she heard Yager say “bullets would fly” if he wasn’t allowed onto his former property before the murder of Melinda Tackett Yager in Paonia on January 7, 2011. Prior to the day Tackett Yager died, Nathan Yager visited Martinez at her work at T-K Mining Services. Yager was employed by the company prior to his wife’s death. Martinez says Yager sat down at her desk and began discussing the home he had shared with his wife and he seemed stressed out by the divorce proceedings. Yager was forbidden by court order to be at the home and was upset that he couldn’t get his things from it. There was also apparent freeze damage after the utilities were shut off. Tackett Yager had moved from the home shortly before being killed. Yager is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.
