Later this week residents in the Western Slope will have an opportunity to hear the latest developments and future of the region’s broadband capability. Club 20 will be hosting this event and will have guest speakers from a number of communication fields. The improvement of broadband services in rural areas is considered a major topic when it comes to economic development and ability to bring in new businesses to our area. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission is considering altering rules that could eliminate the $54 million in state subsidies in rural telephone and internet services. That could be a big blow to the broadband project.
