The Nathan Yager murder trial continued yesterday with the first defense witness testifying. A forensic psychiatrist says Yager suffered from a loss of awareness of his actions and in her expert opinion, he was legally insane at the time of Melinda Tackett Yager’s death. Yager is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity to 2nd degree murder. Yager says he remembers charging at his wife, hitting her and blood, but he doesn’t remember cutting her throat. This testimony conflicts with 2 other psychiatrists who found Yager sane. The prosecutions psychiatrists examined Yager several months after his arrest, while the defense witness saw Yager within a week of his wife’s death. The trial continues this week.
