Montrose Council Moratorium Passes First Meeting

The Montrose City Council met last night, and as expected, gave unanimous support to a moratorium on retail dispensaries of recreational marijuana within the city limits.  There was no public comment and little discussion among the 4 council members.  City Manager Bill Bell said the council tried to follow the same process as they used several years ago for medical marijuana.  Council also cited the inability to enact quality and safety standards, no federal stance on this issue and lack of state regulations for pot sales.  The ordinance has a second reading on December 4th.  Amendment 64 passed in the state, but Montrose County only had about 43-percent voting in favor.  If the ordinance is passed at the next meeting, the moratorium will go in effect right away.  The City of Delta also made the same decision last night.
