Dec 10th @ 4:49 am in News by Scott Staley

The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a reported fire on the roof of a house at 618 ½ West Indian Creek Drive with 7 units and 21 personnel. The first unit on scene found heavy fire and smoke coming from the exterior of the chimney on the roof. The crew made a prompt attack from the exterior and pulled a second hose-line to go interior. Upon making their way to the second story and removing areas in the ceiling, heavy fire was found to be in the attack, the crew quickly removed the rest of the ceiling while extinguishing the fire and preventing further fire extension and damage.

There were two people home at the time of the fire, as well as one dog, and two cats; all were able to evacuate the home without injury. There were no injuries to the public or GJFD personnel because of this incident.  The fire and damage were considered moderate/heavy and contained to the upstairs and exterior roof/chimney area. Cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
