Beaumont Hotel & Spa Among The Best Worldwide

According to the Conde’ Nast website, “this year’s great trend is the rise of the small, intimate property”. That is the amazing thing about Beaumont Hotel winning a place on the list – it only has 12 rooms. In comparison to most other hotels, it is tiny. Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Gold List identifies the best of the best – the gold standard of hotels, resorts, and cruise lines. Every entry on this list has been rigorously tested and screened. Nearly 47,000 of the world’s most discerning travelers (a record setting number) produced a final selection of the very best places in the world, by participating in the annual Readers’ Choice survey. A Conde’ Nast reviewer of the hotel describes the hotel as “Authentic historic ambiance and perfect location in a fascinating mountain town.”

Earlier in 2012, Beaumont Hotel & Spa earned a place on the annual Reader’s Choice List, which included the 370 best hotels, resorts, and cruise lines. The handmade velvet bedcoverings and draperies, one-of-a-kind antiques, and opulent wallpaper in every room contribute to the exclusive style of the hotel. “Visitors’ jaws drop when they see the lobby or one of the guestrooms”, says Jennifer, one of the owners.

This year, the boutique hotel celebrates its 125th Anniversary. Built in 1886 and opened in 1887, this lovely old hotel (the only luxury hotel in Ouray) has welcomed such famous guests as U.S. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, King Leopold of Belgium, Chipeta, widow of Ute Chief Ouray, French actress Sarah Bernhardt, American actress Angie Dickenson and (most recently) media megastar, Oprah Winfrey among others. It has served as the social and business hub of the community and is known as the ‘Flagship of the San Juans’. The hotel sat empty for decades and was scheduled for demolition. Recent restorations modernized the entire structure to meet the needs of today’s traveler while preserving the property’s historical grandeur.

The luxurious Spa is one of the things that takes the hotel to the top of the list of the best places in the world. It is located where the servants’ quarters existed in the olden days and now you can see the mountaintops from every massage table, pedicure chair and even from the private hot tub. Beaumont Grill, the restaurant inside the hotel, also recently brought in a superstar chef from the Dallas area and he has upped the ante for the best food in the area.

Owners Chad & Jennifer Leaver are very excited about their property being chosen as one of the top 510 places in the world. “We are elated to have our grand old hotel recognized as a really unique, special place. People tell us constantly that it is the best in the world but this confirms it!”, says Jennifer.
