The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) has named Rocky Mountain Health Plans a Platinum Well Workplace. The Platinum Well Workplace Award represents the pinnacle of results-oriented worksite wellness programming and makes Rocky Mountain Health Plans one of the nation’s ten most health-conscious work sites.
As WELCOA’s highest designation, the Platinum Award is granted only to organizations which have previously achieved a Gold Well Workplace designation and are continuing to meet rigorous health promotion standards and demonstrate a commitment to improving the health and well being of its employees. The achievement represents continuous progress since 2006, when Rocky Mountain became the first Western Slope employer to win a Bronze Well Workplace Award, followed by a Gold Well Workplace Award in 2009.

Rocky Mountain Health Plans launched its worksite wellness program in 2005, designed to educate and support employees in their health and well-being, while encouraging a productive work environment and reduce costs associated with worker’s compensation and chronic health conditions. Employees can participate in a range of activities from fitness classes, yoga, and massage therapy, to getting a flu shot or quitting smoking, to classes on financial management to reduce personal stress levels.
“Our wellness team realizes there is not a one-size-fits-all program, instead they have looked at our employee population and developed programs that work for every person,” ErkenBrack said. “Our programs have demonstrated measureable improvement in impacting the health of our employees.
Receiving this award is further confirmation that we are doing the right thing.”
The Platinum designation has been bestowed on only ten companies nationwide in 2012. Rocky Mountain Health Plans is the only Colorado company listed as a recipient of the Platinum designation.
The Well Workplace Award initiative is a national competition where companies of all sizes and types submit extensive applications highlighting their health promotion programming efforts. To qualify, companies must provide extensive documentation on seven specific benchmarks: Senior Level Support, Wellness Teams, Data Collection, Strategic Operating Plan, Interventions and Programs, Supportive Environments, and Evaluation of Outcomes.
