Sheridan Arts Foundation Theater Presents “Godspell”

Jan 16th @ 7:32 am in Local Events, News, People, Public Service by Scott Staley

The crème de la crème of the SAF Young People’s Theater is the annual high school musical, and this year, with 12 amazing seniors in the leading roles, this show promises to be the best one yet!  “Godspell” follows the gospel according to St. Matthew, a series of parables (Bible stories) set to music, but as is the tradition with the SAF Young People’s Theater, the story has been re-imagined by the cast and the director.

“Bible stories are about universal truths: kindness, forgiveness, loyalty and generosity,” said YPT Artistic Director Jennifer Julia. “As a theatrical team, we delved into these themes and retold the stories in our own way. The result is a vibrant and engaging new version of the story that young audiences will really be able to relate to.”

With great songs like “Day by Day,” “God Save the People” and “All for the Best,” the show is packed with exuberant dancing and singing. This is an uplifting and innovating show, perfect for the entire family.  Julia is joined by Music Director Bob Callendale Israel, choreographer and YPT alum Lyndia Peralta and set designer Buff Hooper.

“Godspell” plays Feb. 1, 2 & 4 (taking a break on Super Bowl Sunday) at 6 p.m. each night. Tickets are $13 for adults, and $11 for kids 12 and under.  Lap kids are free.  Tickets are for reserved seating, and are available on the Sheridan Opera House website: The concessions stand will be open for each show so bring the whole family down for a night of laughter and entertainment.
