Irrigation Companies and Districts and Ag Producers Invited to Share Opinions about Salinity Reduction Programs
MONTROSE – A meeting on February 6 in Montrose will give irrigation companies and districts and ag producers a chance to tell what they think about various programs offered to reduce salinity off-farm and on-farm in the Colorado River and its tributaries like the Gunnison. Programs such as the Bureau of Reclamation’s Basinwide and Basin States Programs and USDA-NRCS’s EQIP have been underway for several years. An independent consultant has been hired by the Bureau to find out what agricultural producers and water managers think about these programs.
The meeting is designed to get answers to questions like these:
- If you have participated in these programs, what did you like? What did you not like?
- If you haven’t participated in these programs, why not? What has kept you from participating?
- Do you have ideas for how program promoters could increase participation in these programs?
The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Express, 1391 S Townsend Ave, Montrose, from 11:30 am to 2pm. A complimentary lunch will be served. For more information, contact MaryLou Smith at Colorado Water Institute, Colorado State University, MaryLou.Smith@Colostate.edu 970-491-5899.
