With the passage of House Joint Resolution 1013 earlier this morning, the Colorado House of Representatives recognized the week of January 27 through February 2, 2013 as School Choice Week in the state of Colorado.

The bipartisan resolution was sponsored by state Rep. Kevin Priola in the House and Sen. Andy Kerr in the Senate.

“Every child in Colorado should have access to a high-quality education,” Priola, R-Henderson, said. “Providing that opportunity to our children is a desire that crosses partisan lines.”

There is conclusive evidence both here in Colorado and across the nation that students who are provided multiple schooling options perform better academically. Priola’s resolution recognizes the importance of providing more choice to parents and students, and also celebrates the accomplishments of local organizations that have worked to achieve that goal, including the Colorado League of Charter Schools.

“As a parent and a lawmaker, expanding access to a high quality education will always be among my top priorities,” Priola added. “Every parent should have the ability to choose the school that best fits their child’s needs.”
