The Colorado Youth Corps Association honored Rep. Millie Hamner (D-Dillon) as Legislator of the Year along with Sen. Jeanne Nicholson (D-Gilpin County) yesterday.
The association said Rep. Hamner is receiving this award because of her sponsorship of HB12-1032, the Forest Restoration Programs Continuation Act, which encourages the use of youth conservation corps for forest restoration projects.
Rep. Hamner said she was honored to receive this award from an organization so important to the Western Slope.
“This organization does such good work in the world of conservation in our great state,” Rep. Hamner said. “Our children can serve as assets to our state and make positive contributions so important to Colorado and the Western Slope.”
The Colorado Youth Corps Association is a statewide coalition of 10 accredited youth conservation corps that engage and train youth, young adults and military veterans on land, water and energy conservation projects.
Jennifer Freeman, executive director of the association, said it was a privilege to honor Rep. Hamner and Sen. Nicholson.
“These champions and partners understand that young adults have the power to effect positive change for our environment and communities while working toward solutions to the critical land, water and energy issues facing our state.”
