Two Day of Resistance rallies have been scheduled at noon on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Grand Junction and Montrose.  The Grand Junction event will be held on the lawn of the old Mesa County Courthouse at 5th and Rood.  The Montrose rally will be held in front of Montrose City Hall, 433 S. 1st St.  The local Day of Resistance rallies coincide with similar rallies nationwide organized to protest President Barack Obama’s 23 executive orders restricting access to firearms and ammunition.

“He did this without the consent of Congress, which, in itself, violates the foundation of the Constitution and the co-equal branches of government,” states the official web site of the rallies, dayofresistance.com.

Montrose County Sheriff Rick Dunlap recommended that the Montrose rally should not be an open-carry event.  “I think we have to be careful as law-abiding citizens about showing up at rallies packing guns,” Sheriff Dunlap said at a recent meeting of the Tri-County 9-12 Project. “We all know we have that right.”

One attendee at the meeting suggested that the rally be an “empty holster” event.  The Grand Junction event was organized by Dave Melewski, a local decorative concrete contractor.
