Gunnison Sage Grouse Displaying

Montrose, CO - The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has proposed to list the Gunnison Sage-grouse as an endangered species pursuant to the Endangered Species Act. This action requires FWS to designate critical habitat for the species. Populations of these birds are known to exist in portions of Montrose County, especially the Crawford/Maher area and the Cimarron Valley. Large portions of both public and private land within Montrose County have been proposed as critical habitat. Comments in response to the initial proposal are due by March 12, 2013.

A Montrose County map which shows the proposed critical habitat designations can be viewed at http://www.montrosecounty.net/gsg
